Blog 4- Life and death of arrow to the knee with an after thought of praising the sun.

Around 2011 ,upon the release of the game Skyrim, a certain phrase caught the internet community by storm. The phrase ” I took an arrow to the knee” was one of many phrases said by this video games guard. People started to adopt this new phrase and then it started to spread. The spread didn’t last, its peak popularity was in December, only a month after the game was released. Why did it die off so quickly? I think its one of the cases that it was used WAAAYYYY to much by the internet community. First time you hear it its funny, second time a small chuckle, but by the third time it loses its humor. Soon After its initial surge everyone was sick of the phrase and the hype of the game is wearing off since only the most hardcore fans are still playing it, but those fans by now have come up with there own memes that are not over saturating the gaming community. This makes me think that games with smaller fan bases and less hype have memes that tend to stick around much longer. Such memes as “praise the sun” meme from dark souls. I see many of these memes and the game came out a couple of years ago. Which makes me think that this meme and some others like it rely on people that have not played the game to continue.Example would be a curious gamer, which would be me in this case, saw a knight in armor with captions that said praise the sun. I was curious as to where it came from. After some initial research i finally decided to play the game. once i played it, the joke was slightly funnier within the context to the game. As opposed to arrow to the knee, where almost every one heard it in game. Which lead to everyone knowing what it was and the meme dying off quickly from lack of interest in the community.
